Melton U3A was started during 1990-91, following a meeting of senior townspeople organized by the Melton Council and officers of the U3A head office. After this meeting an interim committee was formed to encourage participation in classes, to seek out tutors and to find suitable venues within the town.
Following a questionaire, classes were formed and Melton U3A was up and running. Our campus has provided a wide range of interesting classes. Volunteer tutors have provided oportunities for both education and enjoyment to be a feature of the learning experience. As well as our regular classes we have encouraged involvement in many social activities including bus trips, special occassion dinners, guest speakers, participation in Seniors Week events and what is pertinate at the time.
Melton has continued to operate and grow as it has had the benifit of strong leadership and a clear direction of the U3A principles.
Our Leadership committees have worked hard to put forward our name and our achievements to the local community and to provide a safe permanent and convenient venue in which we can operate.
